Wellbeing Facilitator (WBF)

In 2019 the Film and TV Charity uncovered a mental health emergency in the UK Film and TV Sector. In The Looking Glass Survey it came to light that people working in Film and TV had significantly lower levels of subjective wellbeing than national averages. The third edition of the survey (in 2022) showed some small, positive improvements, but poor mental health, bullying, harassment, discrimination and extreme working conditions are still prevalent in the industry.

The role of a Wellbeing Facilitator (WBF) is to foster a positive working culture and supporting those who need it. They are accessible to all cast and crew and can assist with de-escalating and investigating instances of bullying, harassment and discrimination. Whilst a WBF is NOT a counsellor or therapist, they can signpost individuals if they need more help.

I’ve always been interested in mental health and wellbeing and I am very happy that it is taken much more seriously in the industry now. In 2023 I did my first job as Wellbeing Facilitator on a Channel 4 production in Leeds and I am hoping that a WBF will become standard on every production.
